One of the main reasons people give up on lash routines too early is that they misunderstand timing. Eyelashes do not all grow at the same moment. Each lash moves through a cycle of growth, transition, rest and shedding. That cycle explains why visible improvement is gradual. The active growth stage is when a lash is developing. At any one time, only a proportion of lashes are in this stage.

Finding a few lashes on a cotton pad can feel alarming, but lash shedding is usually part of the normal growth cycle. Like scalp hair, lashes grow, rest and fall before being replaced. The difference is that lashes are more visible when they shed, especially if they are long, dark or coated in mascara.
